Today, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the University of Fallujah launched a large afforestation campaign for the spaces and gardens of the university’s presidential building and its affiliated formations, on the occasion of National Afforestation Day, which comes under the slogan “Let’s make the desert a green oasis.”
The University President, Professor Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad, the employees and his students, participated in the afforestation campaign, in the presence of the Assistant to the University President for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Suleiman Barak Al-Jumaili, and the deans of colleges and heads of departments, where His Excellency planted the first seedling to mark the launch of the campaign, and as an encouragement and confirmation of the importance of this campaign.
He also praised the efforts of the organizers and participants in making the campaign a success, stressing the university’s keenness to support national efforts in confronting the challenges of desertification and mitigating the negative effects of climate change. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of preserving vegetation and increasing green spaces, as well as to give aesthetic value to the university environment.
The campaign, which witnessed widespread participation by male and female students, included planting multiple types of Seedlings, roses, and palm trees. It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research designated March 12 as “National Afforestation Day” in conjunction with the initiative to plant five million trees and palm trees launched by Iraqi Prime Minister Engineer Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to combat desertification.
