On Monday, March 4, 2024, the Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance at the University of Fallujah, in cooperation with the Community Police Directorate - Anbar Branch, held a scientific symposium entitled “The Phenomenon of Suicide: Methods of Prevention and Treatment,” under the auspices of the President of the University, Professor Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad.
The symposium, which was held in the College of Administration and Economics, in the presence of the Dean of the College, Prof. Muhannad Khalifa Obaid, his assistants for scientific and administrative affairs, and department heads, aimed to scientific research, and a number of teaching staff, as well as a collection of A large number of college students sought to learn about the reasons behind the phenomenon of suicide, as well as to learn how dangerous this phenomenon is to society.
The symposium, which was moderated by the lecturer at the Islamic College, included Prof. Dr. Hatem Abdullah Shweish, the first axis of which dealt with the phenomenon of suicide from a legal perspective, presented four main axes, while he discussed the second axis, in which the head of the Psychological Counseling Division, A.M.D., lectured. Abdul Razzaq Jassim Mahmoud, the phenomenon of suicide from a psychological point of view, while Brigadier General Abdul Razzaq Ali touched on the security and legal aspects of the phenomenon of suicide in the third axis, and finally, in the fourth axis of the symposium, Dr. Muhammad Mahmoud Zidan reviewed the social motives for the phenomenon of suicide.
The symposium recommended the necessity of paying attention to youth, providing a healthy climate in society, adhering to the principles and teachings of Islamic education, as well as early diagnosis and treatment of those suffering from psychological disorders, and understanding the circumstances and reasons that drive them.
