Scientific Affairs Department
The Scientific Affairs Department was established by University Order No. (M R J 702) dated 12/12/2017, following the approval of the new organizational structure of our university. The department reports directly to the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs (Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad) and is tasked with organizing and continuously following up on all scientific, research, and creative activities of university staff. This is done through coordination and communication with the Assistant Deans for Scientific Affairs in the colleges and heads of departments, under the direct supervision of the University President (Prof. Dr. Sabah Ibrahim Hammadi).
The Scientific Affairs Department consists of two divisions and one unit:
- Scientific Research Division
- Scientific Output Marketing Division
- Documentation Unit
Duties and Responsibilities of the Scientific Affairs Department:
- Organizing and following up on the university's scientific activities in collaboration with colleges (conferences, scientific seminars, workshops, and discussion panels).
- Documenting faculty participation in scientific activities held inside and outside the university.
- Recommending appreciation letters from the University President to those who publish scientific papers in high-impact journals such as Scopus, Thomson Reuters (Clarivate), Science, and Nature.
- Recommending appreciation letters from the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs to those who publish in reputable local or international peer-reviewed scientific journals with impact factors.
- Following up on the meetings of the Scientific Rigor and Academic Accreditation Committee.
- Monitoring the periodic classification of the university’s scientific journals and proposing new journals.
- Following up on researchers' registration for the Iraqi Science Day Awards, raising awareness of its importance, and maintaining continuous communication to update them on the latest developments.
- Monitoring the completion of the Research and Development Assessment Forms by university staff and researchers.
- Following up on the implementation of pioneering research projects within the university.
- Organizing and supervising procedures for Scientific Sabbaticals for academic research purposes (inside and outside Iraq).
- Nominating distinguished faculty and staff members to participate in scientific conferences, seminars, and workshops inside or outside Iraq.
- Overseeing the updating and development of curricula in the university’s colleges.
- Following up on the Faculty Development Program and Research Fellowship Program for sending faculty members abroad.
- Monitoring researchers’ registration on international platforms such as ResearchGate, ORCID, and Google Scholar.
- Supervising the work of university-formed research teams and their executive plans, and coordinating with other universities and official institutions to form joint research teams.
- Submitting the university’s annual academic and research report (discussion panels) to the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority at the Ministry.
