University of Fallujah Continues Psychological Support Program for Cancer Patients
The University of Fallujah is continuing its psychological support program for cancer patients, which was recently launched to provide psychological and moral support to patients receiving treatment at Fallujah Teaching Hospital.
Key Aspects of the Program
- The program includes periodic visits to Fallujah Teaching Hospital and the provision of motivational sessions aimed at boosting the morale of cancer patients, helping them enhance their ability to resist the disease.
- Dr. Naji Ajami Hamid, Head of the Rehabilitation, Employment, and Follow-up Department, emphasized the need to integrate humanitarian efforts that aid patients in confronting this devastating disease.
- Dr. Naji Ajami Hamid also noted that some patients may give in to the disease due to lack of awareness that every disease can be treated. He stressed that one of the most important steps in treatment is maximizing hope in God Almighty, followed by psychological support from the community, encouraging patients, instilling hope, and promising recovery, alongside medical treatment.
Expert Insights on Psychological Support
- Assistant Professor Dr. Nahla Naji Hilal highlighted the critical role of psychological support in strengthening the immune system of cancer patients and ensuring they don’t collapse in the face of the disease.
- Assistant Professor Lama Sobhi Salem stressed that psychological and social support helps cancer patients cope with psychological stress, reduces depression, anxiety, and other symptoms associated with cancer, while also underlining that external support from family and friends is essential to help encourage patients throughout their treatment journey.
