As part of his continuous follow-up and support for graduate students, the respected President of the University of Fallujah, Professor Dr. Ahmed Suleiman Hamad, on Monday, August 12, 2024, accompanied by the Director of the Department of Graduate Studies Affairs, Professor Dr. Muthanna Abdul Hamid Al-Nouri, attended part of the discussion session for a master’s thesis in the Department of Arabic Language.
The thesis, entitled “The Impact of Sibawayh’s Opinions on Grammatical Guidance in the Book of Parsing of the Qur’an by Jami’ Al-Ulum Al-Baquli (d. 543 AH),” took place in the College of Islamic Sciences.
The thesis submitted by the student Israa Fadel Fadel Saleh, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Ali Hussein, aimed to explain the impact of Sibawayh’s opinions on grammatical guidance in the book “The Parsing of the Qur’an” by the University of Sciences Al-Baqouli. It also attempted to clarify the extent to which Al-Baqouli was influenced by Sibawayh’s opinions and his use of them in directing grammatical issues.
The thesis discussion committee was headed by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hadi Muhammad and included in its membership Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khalaf Hamad and Prof. Dr. Rami Amash Ali.
The results of the thesis showed that Al-Baquli agrees with Sibawayh in most of his opinions, and only rarely disagrees with him. He also leans toward the doctrine of the Basrians, which makes it likely that he is a Basri scholar.
The results of the thesis indicated that Al-Baquli, with his unique mentality, is not content with agreeing with Sibawayh in his guidance. Rather, he suggests other aspects of the issue other than what Sibawayh mentioned, or he is unique in his grammatical opinion in which he disagrees with Sibawayh and the rest of the grammarians.
